Gems are what you get when you break down Steam items you do not want, such as profile backgrounds and emoticons, and they are spent on booster packs of trading cards. A thousand gems pack into one Sack of Gems, which is how gems are traded.
Gem bots buy and sell gems for keys. The rate is the number of gems for one key: when you buy gems, a higher number is better; when you sell, look at what the bot pays. Rates and stock are sent by the bots themselves.
